Microsoft acquires Skype

Today Microsoft announced the acquisition of Skype, what does this mean for our company, our products, our developers and our users?

At the moment we can’t fully say what will happen over time, but as Skype will become a separate and independent business division in Microsoft we expect to see many synergies. We have been closely working with Skype since 2004 and we´re optimistic to further expand and broaden our relationship once Skype is a division of Microsoft.

Our Skype products like Pamela for Skype and mcePhone will continue to work and we will continue to keep a close relationship with Skype for further development.

Our PamFax product originally was very tightly integrated with Skype. After Skype discontinued the partner access to Skype Credit, we removed the tight Skype dependency. Today PamFax is used by Skype and non-Skype users alike.

We will keep you posted as this evolves.

Long awaited “Skype for Salesforce” update available

It has been a few years since we last updated the Skype for Salesforce solution.

This free Skype application provides seamless Skype integration into Salesforce application.

Skype for Salesforce offers you full Skype functionality in your Salesforce screen. You will see the online status of your Skype contacts, you will be able to call them with one click and also receive calls. For received calls with caller ID, Salesforce automatically retrieves the record of that person so you are prepared when you take the call.

You may also import your Skype contact list. This allows for easy Skype calling from Salesforce.

Conference calls are also supported and allow you to easily, directly from Salesforce, start a conference call with a few clicks.

New in the 2.1 version are

  • Support for Firefox browser added
  • Skype call transfer support added

Besides we fixed several technical issues which appeared over time.

More information and download on AppExchange at Salesforce.com.

We hope you enjoy the update and as always appreciate your feedback.

Pamela for Skype 4.7 update in the works

We have been a bit silent on what we are doing with Pamela for Skype, so here a short update on what is happening.

During the past years we have consistantly improved the audio and video recording system in Pamela. In Pamela 4.6 some major improvements were done in the video recording system.

However, we still see that some areas of the audio recorder can be improved. The core engine we’re using there is already a bit older so we thought it is time for an overhaul.

Pamela 4.7 will have a complete new recording code module on which the audio and video recording will be based. This core system will perform a lot better and also use even less CPU as 4.6. This is one of the main objectives, improve performance and at the same time “modulize” the engine so that we are flexible to expand it in future.

Talking about future, we will be starting the development of Pamela5 as soon as 4.7 is out the door. I can’t say too much except that Pamela5 will be a massive change from what Pamela has been offering till today. You will not loose any functionality but there will be a lot of very interesting new things. I’m sure you’ll like the new approach and idea. More on this later!

Chinese Yuan (RMB) now available in our shops

We are proud to announce the availability of the Chinese Yuan (RMB) currency in the Pamela shop (the Pamela for Skype call and video recording solution) and PamFax shop (the easiest online fax solution).

Please note that the currency is only available for China and Malaysian residents.

Pamela hotfix released (4.6.0.59)

Although Pamela 4.6 has been around for a long time we are still finding things that need to be fixed. Relatively shortly after we released the .57 version we release another update. This update has the following changes:

Bugfix: Irregular display of dialog “No sound data from Skype” although sound was OK
Bugfix: Fixed a potential crash situation at Pamela startup
Bugfix: When starting Pamela without Skype the call list would not be populated with the recorded calls
Change: Changed default voicemail greeting message
Change: Removed Skype API authorization warning window

You can update for free by opening Pamela and clicking on “Help” and “Check for update”.

Our plans moving forward are the release of Pamela 4.7. The main changes here will be the new sound engine which we will be using for Pamela5 as well as some fixes. The next release is not a feature release but we will add a “Recording Info” option which allows you to see all the details of a particular recording.

Pamela for Skype hotfix released (4.6.0.57)

Based on feedback from users we were able to address some issues and have released a new hotfix (4.6.0.56) for Pamela Basic, Standard, Professional and Business. Pamela Call Recorder is not effected although we do plan a hotfix sometime soon.

Changes:
Bugfix: Recording did not appear in recording list when connection to Skype was lost.
Bugfix: Recording did not appear in recording list when a new call was received during an active recording.
Bugfix: On Windows7 there was an error when recording Skype video when the Skype window was outside the desktop area.
Bugfix: Potential crash at the end of a call recording.
Change: Call recording warning disabled by default.
Change: Major improvements in audio engine of Pamela which improves the performance of Pamela.

To update just open Pamela and click on the Help menu and then “Check for update”. This will provide you with the correct update version. Download and run the setup which will update Pamela to the latest version. All your data and settings will remain untouched.

Note that upgrades are free for our free and license customers.

PC Home, Taiwan starts ad campaign for PamFax

We recently did a complete revision of our Chinese simplified and traditional language in PamFax. So this was a good time to start finding more customers in Taiwan. As a result, PC Home (Skype distributor in Taiwan) have started a focussed marketing campaign to promote PamFax to their Skype user base.

The promotion started on March 1st. The PamFax ads will be present on their Skype Business pages and also in the partner tab of the PC Home version of the Skype application.
