Based on feedback and system logs we have compiled another PamFax update to address some issues found since the last update.
The new server build version is: .8 (In the PamFax application you will see the version as: 2.0.8.15). Note that we did release a new application version which fixes a scanner issue in Windows but we are not pushing the version to the existing customers. You can update easily by just downloading the installer package from www.pamfax.biz.
One major workflow change we made is that when you install PamFax for the first time you are asked to define a password for direct PamFax portal access. In the past we’ve learned that asking for then when users access the portal creates confusion so we added this to this release. This way PamFax users will always have a password to access the portal. Users that did not have a password will be asked for at next start of PamFax.
The changes we made today are:
Feature: A fax to multiple recipients can be canceled/deleted in the PamFax Portal
Feature: Define PamFax password on first start
Bugfix Mac: Skype language detection in PamFax Mac could hang PamFax
Bugfix Windows: When sending a document via “Send To”, via printer driver or Office toolbar the upload could fail
Bugfix: Added improved support for right to left languages on cover page
Bugfix: Minor IE8 issue fixed when cancelling/deleting faxes from the PamFax Portal
Bugfix: Upload button broken in IE7 and IE8 when clicking “back” on number entry page
Bugfix: In PamFax for Facebook clicking on “Send Fax” triggers “Launch Application” dialog instead of sending the fax
We also added the usual minor fixes and improvements. As we have more and more users submitting multiple recipient faxes we added a function to the portal which allows you to cancel these faxes at once. Till now you had to delete each individual number which could be a very tiresome task.

We’ve just pushed out the second server and first user application update out to the live systems. Since the launch on April 27, we’ve had a lot of good but also some critical feedback. We’re analyzed the feedback carefully and prepared the two updates. By the way, you can always see the server and local application version in the bottom left corner of the PamFax application window. The second digit from the right is the server version number and the furtest right is the local PamFax application number. The server number may change without an application update which means we released an update to the server.
The changes we made in server version 2.0.2.x were mainly focussed on fixing some key backend issues like login problems, stability and performance.
The changes made in todays release (2.0.3.x) are:
- Local PamFax application: Improved printer driver (Windows)
- Local PamFax application: Installer shows real filenames (Windows)
- Local PamFax application: No more installer timeouts (Windows)
- Server: Improved “forgot password” function on Portal login page
- Server: Fixed IE7 compatibility (send faxes + buy credit from portal)
- Server: Portal login issues resolved
- Server: Added about box in client
- Server: Fixed handling of large files (> 10mb)
Windows users will be prompted for an automatic update when you start PamFax.
With this update we have addressed the most mentioned issues. However as we continue to strive for perfectionism, please keep the feedback coming via our helpdesk system.
We are currently collecting the feedback and checking the servers intensively for further improvements. The main points of focus, besides bugfixing, will be:
- Further increase PamFax application performance (startup and responsiveness)
- Roll out improved fax conversion systems
On the conversion servers we already have achieved remarkable results which I will share with you soon. We are coming closer and closer to our objective to make a fax come out as if it is a printed document.

Since the initial release of Pamela in February 2005 and after the last main release in May 2008, we now released Pamela for Skype version 4.5.
4.5 has some new features and changes which I will describe in this post.
The new version has two new main functions: Call Scheduler and Auto Conference Call Manager
Call Scheduler: This function allows you to schedule Skype calls and Pamela will popup a reminder at the preset time before the call is supposed to happen. The call scheduler has several options like recurring calls (great for those weekly/monthly calls). When a call notification is shown you can easily click on an icon which initiates the call for you.
Conference Call Manager: With this tool you can remotely start conference calls, bookmark conference calls or join calls. The situation of use would be where you are to start a conference call but need to attend other business. In this case you can define that when a particular Skype user calls you that Pamela creates the conference call (and you can record it also). The same works for outbound calls, you call a collegue and Pamela will create the conference call for you. You can also click on a call button and Pamela will automatically create a conference call with all people you have defined in the group.
In addition we have done major redesign of the birthday section which now shows a list of all past, current and future birthdays of your contacts. Those that do not have a date set in the Skype profile do not show obviously. New is also the option to customize the standard birthday chat greeting message before sending it.
We’ve had requests from people who installed Pamela on another computer, to be able to import older recordings. This function has been added to 4.5 and you can now easily import recordings into Pamela.
The video recording component, although not yet there where we want it to be, has been improved. Many had issues with Pamela unable to locate the Skype video, this has been fixed. Stay tuned for more development here.
The sound options in Pamela have been simplified as the configuration in 4.0 was very technical and many could not figure out how that worked.
The audio engine in Pamela has been updated and performs better. We have also achieved considerable performance improvements when starting Pamela.
Furthermore icons have been updated for better clearity. Menus have been resorted so they are more logical. Some settings regarding default setting of various options changed based on user feedback.
If you are a current Pamela user (not Call Recorder!), you can upgrade for free by downloading the latest version. To do that open Pamela and click on the Help menu and then “Check for update”. Download the new 4.5 version and run the installer. There is no need to uninstall Pamela for the upgrade.
We hope you enjoy the features of Pamela.

We released a new server update and this time also an update for the local PamFax Extra application (available in Skype under Tools, Do More).
The highlights of the update are:
- Redesigned first page in PamFax application for easier start.
- Resend fax option added to portal. This is nice as it allows you to resend failed faxes easily.
- Added more conversion server power.
- If a document can not be converted to PDF due to issues in the document, there is now a gracious refund process.
- Fixed a Vista UAC issue when Skype is started by PamFax after installing PamFax.
Besides the above we also did the normal set of minor bug fixing and improvements here and there.
Some screenshots:

Your PamFax application will be auto-updated once Skype have released the new version to the Skype Extras Gallery.
Very soon we will be posting about another cool new function we will be adding. This time it will be about integration of PamFax in Facebook, Salesforce.com and in the Vista SideBar. Stay tuned!

We are coming up to 25.000 PamFax users now and have made some decisions how to further improve the platform. In the past 9 months we have seen some issues we don’t like and which impact performance and/or system flexibility. Users have also been providing excellent and valuable feedback.
We are currently working on the following things which will result in the most significant server update since launch:
- A better document conversion system. Right now PamFax can accept the major formats, but we want to improve this even further. The new server system will be able to convert many more formats, offer improved character set support and also significant speed improvements when submitting a fax.
- Architecture improvements. We decided to re-design the server farm architecture and we will have independant running clusters in Europe and North America. This will result in better performance when loading PamFax and submitting faxes.
- Better local processing system. Work is done to make the process of submitting a fax less dependant of environment variables like availability of supporting servers. This will provide improved availability of the PamFax system.
In addition many more minor improvements will be added to the system with this next server update. So, stay tuned for more cool stuff and we thanks you for the feedback. Keep it coming!

PamFax was updated to version 1.0.44.30. There are some very exciting new features available like PayPal payment option to pay your faxes directly with PayPal. But the whole processing in the backend was improved and should be much smoother now. Plus we have made several improvements like the much better Microsoft Office toolbar button, the much better PamFax printer driver, …
Just download the updated installer from pamfax.biz. The download from the Skype Extras Gallery will be updated in the next days by Skype.

TapiRex was updated to version 1.6: this version contains some improvements in stability and handling. For example, Outlook contacts are now buffered in TapiRex so that access to them is much faster now.
We have also added a TapiRex API so that every software developer can use some of the functionalities from TapiRex in his own software (do something on a call, start calls, …). We are looking forward to your cool plugins to TapiRex. Just contact us if you need a helping hand on how to start a TapiRex plugin….
